Based on the iconographic imagery of a medallion from the early 12th-century reliquary casket of the Abbey of Saint-Foy in Conques. Depicted on the convex round bezel of the ring using the champlevé technique is a winged dragon framed by a stepped meander. Its gaping maw and curved neck flow into a body with a wing and a tail that transforms into a floral scroll (rinceau feuillagé). The reverse side of the bezel is decorated with an engraved interlaced ornament - a protective symbol.
The title "Animus Draconis Aureus" reveals the symbolic essence of the image:
Animus — the rational principle and spirit (in medieval thought, the counterpart to anima, the vital force of feelings).
Draconis (dragon) — derives from the Greek dérkomai ("to see sharply, penetratingly").
Aureus — golden, signifying precious radiance and enduring value. Overall, this should be understood as a symbol of a clear mind and vigilant attention. The ring embodies medieval bestiary aesthetics in classical enamel technique.
