Gold-plated sterling silver ring with an ancient Egyptian scarab bead.
The band is decorated with a twisted relief along the edge. The ends of the band are decorated with a relief in the form of an Egyptian lotus. The bead is mounted on a swivel pin.
The bead in the form of a stylized scarab was created in the 1st-2nd centuries AD in the Eastern Mediterranean, most likely in Alexandria, Egypt. On the back of the bead there is a relief with Egyptian hieroglyphic signs.
The scarab is commonly regarded as a symbol of the celestial cycle and the idea of rebirth. The bead is made of Egyptian faience (self-glazing quartz ceramic), a quintessential material of ancient Egyptian artistry. The bead is in excellent condition.
